The core of my work is material, with the central practice based in surrender and improvisation. I come to my studio prepared with an exploration of principles from modernism, abstract impressionism, impressionism, and earth art. My process starts with a basic plan of color relationships, coupled with the material's chemistry. I cover, layer, destroy, layer again- bringing forth images. I'm attracted to movement, direction, nature, and spiritual process. My mystical relationship to the material, and surrender to the process births a resurrection of personal meaning, to bring the work to closure. Herein lies the end goal to my art making. Much of my life has been in urban settings, but I lived briefly in rural Minnesota, which visually impacted my art. I'm currently in Palm Springs where both nature, and city guide me.
